Clinical Research Collaborations
The ERS Clinical Research Collaborations (CRC) programme provides support to projects in different areas of respiratory medicine, to build and maintain European multi-centre networks of researchers, from both within and outside of the Society.
Each year, the ERS CRC programme funds a variety of projects by encouraging proposals that address an identified gap in the current CRC portfolio of activities. CRCs are funded for a 3-year period and a project's progress is evaluated annually.
CRCs are an ideal collaborative platform to involve multiple stakeholders in the projects, such as clinical researchers and translational researchers, with representatives from other specialties, including radiologists, biostatisticians, associated funding partners, patients.
This multidisciplinary approach fosters a dynamic scientific community and has the ultimate aim of advancing science and clinical research in a specific disease area, and to improve respiratory health and medicine.
ERS strongly encourages early-career member involvement to support their career development, in addition to patient engagement and public input into CRCs through the collaboration with the European Lung Foundation (ELF).
For additional insight about the CRC programme, please refer to the editorial published in the European Respiratory Journal in August. 2018.
How to apply for the CRC programme?
For the period 2021-2023, ERS would like to highlight a gap in the CRC portfolio of activities in both Lung Cancer and Pandemic preparedness, and would like to encourage proposals in these areas. These topics will not be favoured in the reviewing process, but if applications were equally rated by reviewers, this would be an important criteria for selecting one over the other.
o The next annual CRC proposal deadline is 15 October, 2020 at 23:59 (CEST).
o Please refer the instructions in the CRC guidelines before applying.
o Submit your application through the ERS CRC application platform prior to the deadline.
o The results will be announced by the end of February, 2021
Proposals are accepted based on their scientific excellence and potential impact. Should you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the ERS scientific department.
To date, 23 projects have been supported by the CRC programme. In 2020, three new CRCs have been awarded, and a further two were renewed. See below for details:
