Clinical Research Collaborations
The ERS Clinical Research Collaborations (CRCs) programme provides support to projects in different areas of respiratory medicine, to build and maintain European multi-centre networks of researchers, from both within and outside of the Society.
CRCs are an ideal collaborative platform to involve multiple stakeholders in the projects, such as clinical researchers and translational researchers, with representatives from other specialties, including radiologists, biostatisticians, associated funding partners, patients.
This multidisciplinary approach fosters a dynamic scientific community and has the ultimate aim of advancing science and clinical research in a specific disease area, and to improve respiratory health and medicine.
ERS strongly encourages early-career member involvement to support their career development, in addition to patient engagement and public input into CRCs through the collaboration with the European Lung Foundation (ELF).
Each year, the ERS CRC programme funds a variety of projects by encouraging proposals that address an identified gap in the current CRC portfolio of activities. CRCs are funded for a 3-year period, and a project's progress is evaluated annually. For additional insight about the CRC please refer to the Editorial published in the European Respiratory Journal in September 2018 here: Editorial August 2018.
Applications are selected on scientific excellence and potential impact.
For the period 2019-2022, ERS would like to highlight a gap in the CRC portfolio of activities in both Sarcoidosis and COPD exacerbation, and would like to encourage proposals in these disease areas.
These topics will not be favoured during the review process, but if applications are equally rated by reviewers, this would be an important criteria for selecting one project over another.
- The next annual CRC proposal deadline is 15 October, 2018 at 23:59 (CEST)
- The results will be announced by the end of February, 2019
How to apply for CRC funding
The application is considered as complete when it contains:
- The CRC Application Form completed
- The Conflict of Interest Declaration Form for both CRC Chairs
- A Short list of references for both CRC Chairs, justifying their expertise in the fields and their role/responsibility in the CRC
If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact the ERS Scientific department.
To date, 17 projects have been supported by the CRC programme. In 2018, four new CRCs have been awarded, and a further two were renewed. See below for details:
